Corporate Communications Manager of the Gambling (Gaming and Betting) Control Commission, Shahad Ali, believes proposed amendments to the Gambling and Betting Act, which include stiffer penalties for illegal gambling, will help level the playing field.
In an interview with Newsday on October 14, Ali said it will enhance legitimacy for licensed operators and support sustainable industry growth by reducing unfair competition from illegal gambling.
“Once fully proclaimed, the Gambling Control Commission’s objective is to foster a mature gambling ecosystem through a stakeholder-focused approach, while prioritising the protection of vulnerable groups through responsible gaming practices,” Ali said.
