Chang hails historic drop in Jamaica’s murders

National Security and Peace Minister Dr Horace Chang has described Jamaica’s recording of just 37 murders in August as a “remarkable achievement”, pointing to the figure as evidence that the country is making meaningful progress in its fight against serious crime.

The August murder toll is among the lowest monthly totals recorded in Jamaica’s recent history and represents a 35 per cent decline compared with the 57 murders recorded during the same month last year.

Chang said the sharp reduction reflects the sustained efforts of the security forces, government agencies, communities and other stakeholders working to curb violence and improve public safety.
