Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar SC has extended sympathy to the government and people of Venezuela following Wednesday’s earthquakes, which caused loss of life and widespread destruction.
According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), Venezuela was struck by a 7.2-magnitude earthquake, which was followed seconds later by an even stronger 7.5-magnitude quake. With both occurring close to the surface, the destruction was more severe, leaving at least 188 people dead and 1,500 injured.
In a statement, the Prime Minister said, “The Government and people of Trinidad and Tobago, and I, extend our heartfelt sympathy to the Government and people of Venezuela following the recent earthquake, which has caused loss of life and destruction.”
