A family beach outing ended in tragedy on Saturday, July 26, 2025, when 16-year-old Isaiah Pemberton, a student of the San Juan North Secondary School, drowned while swimming in the waters behind Five Islands, Chaguaramas.

Isaiah, of Prizgar Lands, Laventille, had been enjoying the afternoon with relatives and friends when, around 3p.m., he got into difficulty. Witnesses said he began shouting for help after being swept away by a strong current.

Two individuals attempted to rescue him but were also pulled under. They eventually managed to fight their way back to shore, but Isaiah disappeared beneath the surface.
