The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) has extended its Adverse Weather Alert #4 at the Yellow Level, as inclement weather continues to pose a risk across both islands. The alert is now in effect until 4p.m. on Thursday, June.
According to the TTMS, while some temporary settling of weather conditions is expected during the night, there remains a medium (60%) chance of periodic heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms returning by early Thursday morning.
The public is being warned of the increased risk of street and flash flooding, particularly in low-lying and poorly drained areas, as well as landslides and landslips in regions where soil saturation has reached critical levels due to ongoing rainfall. Though major rivers are currently below alert thresholds, the TTMS notes that water levels are steadily rising, especially in smaller tributaries which may overflow rapidly during heavy downpours.
