The Min­istry of Agri­cul­ture has con­firmed that pork re­mains safe to eat fol­low­ing the de­tec­tion of Porcine Re­pro­duc­tive and Res­pi­ra­to­ry Syn­drome (PRRS) at a sin­gle pig farm in Trinidad.

The dis­ease, which af­fects pigs but pos­es no risk to hu­mans, does not im­pact the safe­ty of pork prod­ucts.

The Min­istry has ac­ti­vat­ed its emer­gency re­sponse plan, fo­cused on erad­i­cat­ing the dis­ease at the in­fect­ed farm, sup­port­ing the af­fect­ed farmer, and pro­tect­ing the pork in­dus­try.
