(Kaieteur News) – President Irfaan Ali remains steadfast to his party’s new position that the ExxonMobil contract will not be renegotiated, but this does not mean Guyanese citizens will not be able to extract benefits from the sector.
In an interview with the CNN this week, the Head of State noted that Guyanese will be able to invest in upcoming energy projects.
“The Production Sharing Agreement with Exxon was signed by the last government and we recognise that the sanctity of contract is important,” he explained. While the agreement may not deliver the “best deal” to the country, the Head of State holds firm that the contract terms must not be negotiated.
