Independent Senator Alicia Lalite-Ettienne called on government to act urgently to meet its constitutional and international obligations to people with disabilities and those who are differently-abled.
Lalite-Ettienne, who is legally blind, tabled a private members’ motion in the Senate on November 26, urging the state to produce a comprehensive national strategic plan, including a legislative framework, to remove barriers facing disabled citizens within the next year.
It was the first private members’ motion debated in the current Senate session.
