Police launch 'Big brothers' for at-risk boys

POLICE are stepping up interventions in schools following an increase in fighting, vaping and disorderly behaviour, with 272 offences detected during the last academic year.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Junior Benjamin said yesterday that the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) would be taking a more preventative approach to dealing with problematic behaviour among students, including the use of music programmes, anti-bullying initiatives and a mentorship programme.

He said a cadre of thoroughly vetted police officers would be assigned as mentors and 'big brothers', particularly to boys considered to be at risk.
