Although statistics show a higher percentage of reported mental health challenges among women, Head of the Non-Communicable Diseases Unit at the Health Ministry says the figures may not fully reflect the struggles faced by men, many of whom are reluctant to acknowledge or report mental health concerns.
Dr. Navindra Persad says 18.6% of the population reported experiencing depression in 2024, with the rate higher among females than males.
