A 47-year-old Bar­rack­pore man died and a woman was in­jured af­ter they were hit by a van on Rochard Road, Pe­nal, on Fri­day night.

Po­lice said Habib John and Ann Marie Co­dring­ton Mitchell were walk­ing near Pla­tan­ite Trace around 7:10 p.m. when they were struck by a white Kia K2700 dri­ven by a 33-year-old Pe­nal man.

John died at the scene. Co­dring­ton Mitchell was tak­en to the San Fer­nan­do Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal, where she re­mains in sta­ble con­di­tion.
