In­ves­ti­ga­tions are con­tin­u­ing in­to the dis­cov­ery of a de­com­pos­ing body in a dam in Pe­nal on Tues­day. While po­lice await pos­i­tive iden­ti­fi­ca­tion, the body is be­lieved to be that of a 94-year-old man who had been miss­ing since last week.

Ac­cord­ing to a po­lice re­port, around 12.25 pm on Tues­day, a 21-year-old vil­lager went to pick man­goes along a bushy track lead­ing to the top of a hill about 200 feet off Vic­tor Street, Syne Vil­lage, when he saw the body of a man ly­ing face down in the Mo­ra Dam.

The step­son of the miss­ing man told Guardian Me­dia that he had not yet seen the body but be­lieved it was his step­fa­ther. He said his step­fa­ther came to live with him in Syne Vil­lage about six years ago af­ter his moth­er fell ill. Due to work com­mit­ments, he ex­plained, his step­fa­ther was some­times alone at home. As his fa­ther had Alzheimer’s and would of­ten wan­der off, he did not re­port him miss­ing im­me­di­ate­ly when a neigh­bour in­formed him on Tues­day night. He be­lieved his step­fa­ther would have re­turned home. How­ev­er, he said on Tues­day, a neigh­bour in­formed him that his step­fa­ther’s body had been found.
