Senate Passes Special Operations Bill After Wade Mark Breaks Tie

Political scientist Prof. Hamid Ghany says Trinidad and Tobago needs tougher measures to curb worsening crime, backing the newly passed Special Operations Bill. Tobago Chief Secretary Farley Augustine welcomed the island’s inclusion as District 7 under the Special Operations Bill, saying it gives law enforcement needed tools to respond to crime and security threats. The Senate passed the bill after a 15-15 tie was broken by President Wade Mark. Augustine said Tobago’s geography justifies the move, though he expects it to be used rarely and says consultation with the THA would be unavoidable.
