Kingston College Clears Students After Viral Stairwell Video Raises Bullying Concerns

Fi We Children Foundation is urging Jamaica to enact comprehensive anti-bullying laws after a viral video showed a Kingston College student over a staircase, sparking concerns about student safety and reporting systems. The group says schools need confidential, child-friendly ways for pupils to report bullying without fear of retaliation, especially younger students new to the school.

Kingston College says its investigation found no bullying in a viral video showing two Grade 9 students holding a Grade 7 boy near a stairwell, saying they were trying to prevent him from being hurt. Principal Dave Myrie urged parents not to make public judgments from short clips, warning that misinformation can damage students and delay proper reporting of concerns.

Kingston College says its investigation found no bullying in the viral stairwell incident involving two Grade 9 students and a Grade 7 student, concluding the older boys were trying to help prevent harm. The school said the case was reviewed with students, parents and external agencies, and warned against sharing partial videos or making public accusations before facts are known.

Kingston College says a full investigation found no bullying in the stairwell video incident and that two Grade 9 students seen holding a Grade 7 boy were trying to help him, not harm him. The school urged parents to avoid social media speculation and to use official reporting channels for concerns.
