Jamaica’s Kickboxing Team Targets Gold at ISKA World Championships in Madrid

Jamaica’s five-member team is in Madrid for the ISKA AMA World Championships, led by medal-heavy fighters Akino Lindsay and Richard Stone. Lindsay has 13 golds to Stone’s nine, and their rivalry is a major storyline as Jamaica aims to improve on its Brisbane haul of seven gold, three silver and one bronze.

Jamaica’s Akino Lindsay, the ISKA AMA’s most decorated fighter, is heading to the World Championships in Madrid, where five Jamaicans are targeting double gold. He is urging more inner-city boys, including those from Waterhouse, Tivoli Gardens and Denham Town, to get access to sport as a path away from crime and toward opportunity.

Jamaican martial artist Nicholai Reid says winning double gold at the ISKA AMA World Championships in Brisbane last year could mark a breakthrough as he prepares for Madrid in November. He overcame weight-class challenges to medal in two divisions, and now hopes better fitness and consistency will help him add to his growing international record.
