There has been a surge in cases of hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) on the sister island of Tobago.
In response to the rising number of infections, the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) Division of Health, Wellness, and Social Protection (DHWSP) issued a public appeal yesterday, urging parents to keep children exhibiting symptoms of HFMD and impetigo (a highly contagious skin infection) at home to prevent further spread.
While HFMD typically occurs seasonally, the situation in Tobago has taken a troubling turn, with a significant increase in cases.
