KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Government has approved a 16 per cent fare increase for public passenger vehicle (PPV) operators, with the adjustment set to take effect in phases beginning Tuesday.
The increase, which has been pending since April 2024, will be introduced in two stages. An initial eight per cent adjustment will take effect in June, followed by a further eight per cent increase in July.
Transport Minister Daryl Vaz announced the decision on Tuesday morning, noting that the Government opted for a phased approach to lessen the inflationary impact that a single 16 per cent increase in June could have had on commuters.
