(Kaieteur News) – The Ministry of Health has reportedly rehired two doctors terminated by the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) for gross negligence in connection with the death of 17-month-old Deandre Prashad — quietly placing them at the Diamond Diagnostic Hospital on the East Bank of Demerara while his family struggles to obtain the medical records needed to pursue justice.
The low-profile move has drawn sharp concern from within the local medical fraternity, where sources say the Ministry has historically refused employment to practitioners dismissed for far less serious infractions.
Dr. Marissa Seepersaud, a Guyanese national and former Head of Paediatric Surgery at GPHC, and Dr. Yala Gomez, a Cuban national, were both officially terminated in February 2026 following an exhaustive internal investigation into a July 2025 surgical procedure. GPHC’s review concluded there were clear grounds for termination based on negligence.
