Kaieteur News – Minister of Amerindian Affairs Sarah Browne on Sunday evening made the first official confirmation that there were fatalities in the MV Barima tragedy.

The vessel capsized on Saturday night while en route to Port Kaituma, Region One, with 133 persons onboard. The latest update from government authorities indicates that 67 persons, including 15 children, have been rescued, while search and rescue operations continue for those still unaccounted for.

However, during a dinner hosted ahead of the National Toshaos Council (NTC) Conference, Browne extended condolences to the families of those affected by the tragedy.
