United National Congress (UNC) deputy political leader, Roodal Moonilal, is claiming that the People’s National Movement (PNM) government, led by Prime Minister Stuart Young, secured a $500 million loan on the eve of the April 28 general election to fund last-minute infrastructural work, including the collapsed roadway at Mosquito Creek.
Reading from two Cabinet notes, dated March 20, 2025, Moonilal said two loans, valued at $250 million each, were taken on behalf of the National Infrastructure Development Company Limited (NIDCO) and National Insurance Property Development Company (NIPDEC).
The funds were issued by First Citizens Bank Limited and Scotiabank Trinidad and Tobago Limited, he said.
