(Kaieteur News) – Thirty-two contractors have submitted bids for the rehabilitation of the East Ruimveldt Market, a project being executed through the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development.
The project is divided into five lots and forms part of an $18 billion budget allocated for market upgrades nationwide this year. East Ruimveldt is among the markets slated for rehabilitation under this programme.
Plans to upgrade the facility were first announced in February, following a walkthrough by Minister Priya Manickchand and her team. During that engagement, vendors raised several concerns affecting their daily operations, including structural deficiencies, poor sanitation, inadequate drainage, and the general need for a safer, more comfortable business environment.
