Minister of Homeland Security Roger Alexander has called on financial institutions to review their banking procedures and strengthen customer security, warning that criminals could be obtaining information about large cash withdrawals from people working inside banks.
Alexander said banks needed to take greater responsibility for protecting customers, including examining the placement of cash-counting machines and ensuring that information about customers’ transactions was not exposed to people outside the relevant banking areas.
Speaking on TTT’s Focus programme on Saturday, Alexander noted the public discussion about the increase in robberies involving people who had withdrawn large sums of money, including a recent incident in Maraval.
