WHILE a High Court judge noted the increase in contempt applications over the non-payment of debts, he called for imprisonment to not be seen as the only other option for the debtors.
Justice Frank Seepersad said that incarceration should only be pursued when it can be shown that the judgment debtor's conduct is fraudulent, evasive or dishonest.
The judge's comments came after an application was filed to have a man committed to prison after he paid $2,000 of a $16,000 court order from back in 2023.
