To the world, Clifton āJackieā Jackson was the legendary bass guitarist whose fingers helped shape some of Jamaican musicās most enduring recordings.
To his four daughters, he was simply āDadā, the quiet protector who wanted them to have the things he never had, helped negotiate the purchase of their cars, loved giving them gifts and, above all, raised them to become fiercely independent women.
Jackson, the 79-year-old widower of celebrated Jamaican songstress Karen Smith, died at the Cornwall Regional Hospital in Montego Bay, St James, at approximately 5 a.m. yesterday.
