THE public has been warned against sharing or reproducing information from the sex offender website, with anyone found guilty of the offence facing a fine of $25,000 and three years’ imprisonment.
Assistant Superintendent Owie Russell issued the warning yesterday during a news conference at the Police Administration Building in Port of Spain, reminding citizens that the website was intended to help protect the public and not to facilitate harassment or vigilante action.
The website, sexoffenders.gov.tt, was officially launched on March 3, 2023, and allows members of the public to view information about convicted sex offenders whose details have been approved for publication by the courts.
