A joint law enforcement operation along the Cedros/Icacos coastline has resulted in the seizure of illegally imported livestock and the humane euthanasia of 42 animals found to be infected with a communicable disease, prompting a national warning from Commissioner of Police Allister Guevarro about the dangers of animal smuggling.
At approximately 8:30 a.m. on Sunday 17th May 2026, officers of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), in collaboration with the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard (TTCG), established a surveillance operation along the Cedros/Icacos coastline after acting on information received.
Officers observed a vessel hastily leaving the area — a detail that heightened suspicions. Shortly after, law enforcement intercepted a wheel tractor emerging from a forested area close to the shoreline, pulling a trailer carrying a quantity of animals.
