KINGSTON, Jamaica — An alleged gang leader was shot and killed during an armed confrontation with police on North Street, Kingston, on Friday night, triggering protests by residents later that night and again Saturday morning.
Police identified the deceased as 26-year-old Amani Malcolm, also known as “Bling Dawg”. According to the police, Malcolm was shot after he allegedly grabbed a policeman’s service firearm, causing a tussle.
Reports indicate that about 10:40 pm, a police team conducting a mobile patrol saw a man with a bulge in the front of his waistband standing at the intersection of North Street and Pink Lane.
