28 Region 8 residents trained to operate heavy machinery

Twenty-eight residents of Region Eight (Potaro-Siparuni) have completed professional training and certification in skid steer and compactor operation. The training was conducted through MACORP under the Public Works Ministry’s Special Projects Unit Community Participation Model, according to Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo in a social media post. The programme is designed to equip residents with the skills needed to undertake village infrastructure projects supported by capital grants of up to $30 million. Participating community clusters are also being provided with heavy equipment, including excavators, motor graders, loaders, compactors and bulldozers. The equipment will be used to undertake road construction and drainage works within the communities. Jagdeo in the post said preparations are currently underway for a second batch of residents to undergo training.

The programme, he said, is intended to strengthen the capacity of hinterland communities to carry out their own infrastructure projects.
