The Couva/Point Lisas Chamber of Commerce wants an update from the Government on its promise to review firearm licensing and improve access to firearm users’ licences (FULs) for law-abiding citizens, more than a year after Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar raised the issue.
The chamber’s call followed yesterday’s shooting deaths of a businesswoman and a customer at a beauty spa in Couva, which added two more victims to the country’s 2026 murder toll.
In a release condemning the killings, the Couva chamber said it remained hopeful that the Government would honour its commitment to provide FULs to members of the business community, who are increasingly concerned about their safety.
