Fishermen’s US strike death lawsuit stalls

Nearly one year after Trinidadian fishermen Chad Joseph and Rishi Samaroo vanished while trying to return home from Venezuela, a lawsuit against the US government over their alleged deaths in a US military strike in the Caribbean Sea has been stalled, pending a determination by Trinidad and Tobago’s courts.

The landmark Burnley v United States lawsuit is now awaiting the outcome of a local court hearing to declare both men legally deceased and allow their relatives to assume control of their estates, American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) senior staff attorney Steven Watt told the Sunday Express last week.
