Kam­la Per­sad-Bisses­sar is call­ing for tighter se­cu­ri­ty at Car­ni­val events and in sur­round­ing ar­eas, urg­ing au­thor­i­ties to pro­tect cit­i­zens and vis­i­tors from crime.

She warned that this year’s cel­e­bra­tions are hap­pen­ing un­der a State of Emer­gency due to "the un­prece­dent­ed, un­con­trol­lable crime and vi­o­lence wave that has be­sieged our na­tion for years." She urged po­lice to "dili­gent­ly main­tain a strong pres­ence at all ma­jor Car­ni­val events" to en­sure the safe­ty of fete-go­ers, spec­ta­tors, and rev­ellers.

Per­sad-Bisses­sar al­so wants in­creased po­lice pa­trols in rur­al towns, bor­oughs, and re­gion­al cor­po­ra­tions host­ing J’ou­vert and oth­er fes­tiv­i­ties. She called for se­cu­ri­ty re­in­force­ments in res­i­den­tial ar­eas, pub­lic beach­es, and rivers, warn­ing that these lo­ca­tions re­main vul­ner­a­ble.
