THE Trinidad and Tobago Football Association (TTFA) has officially dropped the nickname “Soca Warriors” for the men’s national football team following the breakdown of negotiations with veteran sports commentator Selwyn Melville, the legal owner of the trademark.
After months of referring to the national squad only as the Trinidad and Tobago men’s national football team, the TTFA is now moving forward with a rebranding effort.
This comes ahead of the final round of FIFA World Cup qualifiers, which begins in September. Trinidad and Tobago are set to face Jamaica, Curaçao, and Bermuda as they compete for a spot in next year’s World Cup, which will be hosted jointly by the United States, Mexico and Canada.
