Questions surrounding engineering company Sigma and its expanding role in Guyana’s publicly funded water sector require a careful distinction between the company’s long-established Bangladesh operation and the Guyanese entity registered in 2022.
The distinction has become particularly relevant following allegations raised by Opposition Leader Azruddin Mohamed concerning Sigma’s government contracts and the company’s relationship with Guyana.
Sigma Engineers has rejected Mohamed’s allegations and said its Guyanese entity, Sigma Engineers Ltd Inc., was properly registered on October 6, 2022. The company also maintains that its first contract held by that Guyanese entity was awarded in 2026 following a national competitive bidding process administered through the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB). Sigma has indicated that it is taking legal action over what it describes as serious misrepresentations.
