(Kaieteur News) – Opposition Leader, Azruddin Mohamed has accused Senior Superintendent Prem Narine and other police ranks of attempting to kill him during an October 12 encounter in Georgetown, releasing CCTV footage on Monday that he said contradicts the Guyana Police Force’s account of the incident.
Mohamed, accompanied by We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) General Secretary Odessa Primus, made the allegations during a two-hour press conference, where he walked reporters through footage of the confrontation and announced plans to file private criminal charges against the officers involved.
The incident left Mohamed and his aides, Eugene Thorne and Mario Mohamed, detained for 81 hours before they were charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition and obstruction of justice. All three pleaded not guilty and were granted bail totalling $750,000 each on October 16.
