By Mark DaCosta- The Alliance For Change (AFC), in a statement issued on 4 November 2026, has used the United States midterm elections to make a broader case for democratic accountability, while congratulating American voters and those elected to Congress. Its message links political participation in the US with concerns familiar in Guyana: public trust, institutional independence and the responsibility of elected representatives.
The release says the vote demonstrates “the right of citizens to choose their representatives” and argues that public institutions must remain “accountable to the people”. But its significance for Guyanese readers lies as much in the principles the AFC invokes as in the congratulations themselves. The party presents the US election as an example of how citizens can influence political direction through the ballot, and as a reminder that elections alone cannot guarantee sound governance.

That distinction matters. Midterm elections take place halfway through a US president’s four-year term. Voters choose all seats in the House of Representatives and roughly one-third of the Senate, as well as participating in various state and local contests. The congressional results can reshape the balance of power in Washington, but neither the release nor its language supplies seat totals or other details by which readers can assess the outcome. Its emphasis is instead on democratic norms and the duties attached to elected office.
