Political analyst Prof Hamid Ghany says the former People’s National Movement (PNM) administration could have implemented campaign finance reform via a simple majority bill, but failed to do so during its near decade in power.
In an interview with the Sunday Express last week, Ghany noted that campaign finance reform has been an agreed cross-party issue for more than two decades.
In an interview outside the Parliament on April 1, 2026, PNM deputy political leader Senator Sanjiv Boodhu called on the Government to introduce campaign finance reform legislation.
