One week after the Government terminated all contracts under the Community-Based Environmental Protection and Enhancement Programme (CEPEP), dozens of former employees returned to the programme’s headquarters in Ste Madeleine yesterday in search of answers.
Contractors, and workers—some of whom had spent years sweeping the streets, cutting grass and clearing drains across the country—marched outside the facility’s entrance while chanting, “We want we work...right now! We want we money...right now!”
They were only a few of the approximately 10,000 workers left jobless after contractors received a letter signed by CEPEP chief executive officer Keith Eddy advising that their contracts had been terminated.
