(Kaieteur News) – On Monday, October 5, the Guyana Development Bank is scheduled to begin operations. The Finance Minister signed the commencement order on September 16, and Government says US20 billion and half of the bank’s authorised capital, will be injected at start-up. Eligible entrepreneurs will be able to access loans of up to G$3 million at zero interest and without collateral, supported by mentorship, training and technical assistance.
I welcomed this bank when I wrote about it in August, and I welcome it again today. Guyana needs a financial institution prepared to take chances on entrepreneurs whom commercial banks may consider too small, too new or insufficiently collateralised.
