GHK Lall Blasts ‘Devious’ Government Over Justice Persaud Airport Ordeal

Social commentator GHK Lall has launched a blistering attack on the Guyana Government over what he describes as the public humiliation of High Court Justice Gino Persaud at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA), questioning how the government can deny involvement in the judge’s U.S. visa review while remaining silent about a subsequent airport incident under Guyanese control.

Persaud was prevented from travelling to Jamaica for the Commonwealth Magistrates’ and Judges’ Association conference after being informed that his U.S. visa was under review. The United States has not publicly disclosed the reason for the review. U.S. Ambassador Nicole Theriot said the Georgetown Embassy was not aware of the information prompting the review and explained that such reviews are handled in Washington.

Attorney General Anil Nandlall has emphatically denied any involvement by the Guyana Government, saying President Irfaan Ali, Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo and he had no influence over the U.S. decision.
