Minister of Public Utilities Barry Padarath is expected to bring before Cabinet today a proposal to reject the Regulated Industries Commission’s (RIC) recommendation to increase electricity rates for residential and commercial customers.
The government is expected to formally dismiss the long-standing proposal. This marks a reversal of the recommendation that was made when People’s National Movement (PNM) was in government.
Padarath confirmed that the matter is scheduled for discussion this afternoon, with a request for Cabinet to officially discard the proposed hike.
