(Kaieteur News) – Prison Officers from Mazaruni Prison has rescued a miner following a boat mishap on the Mazaruni River in Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni).
According to the Guyana Prison Service (GPS), the incident occurred around 10:55 hours on Thursday, October 01, 2026, when the miner was transporting fuel to a mining camp in Itabali.
The boat encountered perilous waters and began to partially submerge. Fortunately for the miner, Prison Trade Instructor Jason Acher was heading to Bartica when he spotted the miner in distress. The GPS said, “The prison officer and his team wasted no time extending a lifeline to the miner, pulling him to safety from the dangerous waters. He was taken to Bartica.”
