A Superintendent of Police attached to the Police Band was assaulted while attempting to intervene in a fight at a restaurant along Aranguez Main Road on Monday morning.
Police reported that around 10:30 a.m, the officer, 54, observed a man and woman fighting at Cher’s Chinese Restaurant. When he tried to break up the altercation, the suspect, a 21-year-old Venezuelan national, pushed and slapped him.
Despite the officer identifying himself using his TTPS badge and identification card, the suspect continued to resist. The officer attempted to place the man under arrest, warning him of the offence of resisting arrest. The suspect pulled away but was eventually detained. Both the officer and suspect were taken to the Barataria Police Station.
