(Kaieteur News) – President Dr. Irfaan Ali has called for a fundamental shift in biodiversity conservation, advocating fiscal incentives to attract investment in activities that protect nature while generating sustainable economic returns.
According to a press by the Office of the President, President Ali made the call on Friday at the opening of the second Global Biodiversity Alliance (GBA) Summit at the Arthur Chung Convention Centre, where he stressed that the time has come to move beyond international declarations and commitments towards practical mechanisms that translate conservation efforts into investment and lasting protection.
“The Global Biodiversity Alliance is not another international forum to discuss the importance of nature… it must show how we turn commitment into investment, investment into opportunity, and opportunity into lasting protection for nature.”
