The manufacturer of the AN/TPS-80 Ground/Air Task-Oriented Radar (G/ATOR) installed in Tobago says the device is not designed for maritime purposes.
According to The New York Times, a representative from Northrop Grumman, a major American aerospace and defence technology company that manufactures this specific system, has confirmed that it is not designed to track “maritime or ground targets”.
The executive, who the Times said spoke on the condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the situation, said the radar helps in identifying and destroying a target.
