Two-year-old Jami Williams of Beetham Gardens died after he was struck by a vehicle along the Eastern Main Road, St Joseph, on Thursday night.
Around 8.15 pm, Williams ran across the road near SURE Security, with his parents following behind him. A white Nissan E26 panel van, driven by a 35-year-old woman from Barataria, was heading east when the child ran into its path.
The driver told police she slammed on the brakes to avoid a collision but felt an impact on the left side of the vehicle. She stopped a short distance away and, along with the child’s parents, rushed him to the Mt Hope Paediatric Hospital.
