David ‘Kukudoo’ McDermott will be honoured with a Service of Thanksgiving at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre on Sunday, July 19, with viewing scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport Olivia Grange has announced in a press release on Wednesday. A tribute concert celebrating the late gospel singer’s life and legacy will also be held at the same venue on Tuesday, July 14, at 7 p.m.Describing Kukudoo as a cultural force, Grange said his work celebrated African-derived spiritual traditions within Jamaican society. She added that the revivalist singer’s performances resonated across generations and social backgrounds.Kukudoo was also honoured at this year’s Labour Day Concert, where he had been a regular performer.The singer, who was diagnosed with cancer in late February of this year, died on May 8.
