(Kaieteur News) – An Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and two children were injured after a fire destroyed part of an orphanage at Enmore, East Coast Demerara, on Friday, prompting a swift emergency response that safely evacuated all 33 children housed at the facility.
Fire Chief Gregory Wickham confirmed that the Guyana Fire Service (GFS) dispatched three fire trucks and two ambulances after receiving reports of the blaze.
“From all accounts, all the children and staff that were in the building at the time are accounted for. We do have three persons who have suffered some injuries,” Wickham said in a video update.
