Spanish Town Road turned into an unexpected carnival yesterday, as supporters of Brazil erupted in celebration after football giants Germany were sensationally eliminated from the FIFA World Cup following a defeat in the round of 32 to underdogs Paraguay.
“Mi can’t believe seh dem gone home. Mi really think them woulda win this match but as of now, me a carry any side weh beat Brazil,” Germany supporter Marlon Hamilton said.
Many of the Brazilian fans didn’t hide their excitement that the result felt less like a neutral knockout fixture and more like a turning point for them to win in the round of 16, with some boldly insisting the path to winning the cup has become easier. Among the crowd reacting to the match was Oshane Hawes, and a very blunt Brazil supporter who goes by the moniker ‘Bullo’, whose reactions captured the raw emotion of Germany’s defeat.
