Women’s Commission slams police over failure to remand Seeram

(Kaieteur News) – The Women and Gender Equality Commission (WGEC) has condemned what it described as a “flagrant disregard” for the judicial process following the failure of the Guyana Police Force to execute court orders to remand government official Daniel Seeram to prison after his conviction for assaulting his former spouse.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Commission, through its Chairperson, Indranie Chandarpal, said the handling of the matter undermines public confidence in the justice system and raises serious questions about equality before the law.

Seeram was convicted on October 5, 2026, for assaulting his former spouse and causing actual bodily harm during an incident on September 11, 2023. He was ordered remanded to prison pending sentencing, which is scheduled for November 2, 2026.
