The North Central Regional Health Authority (NCRHA) says it is addressing long-standing infrastructural and operational problems at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex (EWMSC), Mt Hope, including upgrades to surgical theatres, expansion of clinical services, and improvements to healthcare infrastructure.
The authority’s response comes after Patriotic Front political leader Mickela Panday described conditions at the hospital’s Accident and Emergency Department (A&E) as evidence of a healthcare system “in deep crisis”.
In a statement yesterday, the NCRHA rejected suggestions of “indifference and inaction”, saying the current board, which took office in August 2025, inherited serious deficiencies that had persisted for years.
